Bookstall & Library

Bookstall
The bookstall consists of two display stands at the rear corner of St. Martin’s Church.

One stand holds Christian books for both adults and children. They range from scriptural, (auto) biographical, personal experiences to fiction. Books are also ordered for customers upon request. Speak to Sue Howcutt if you are looking for a recommended title or something specific and she will endeavour to obtain this for you.

The second display holds a range of both Christian and ‘blank for your own message’ cards for all seasons and personal greetings. Also available are small scripture cards, bookmarks and, occasionally, small gifts.

A little profit is made on sales which, in the past, has been used flexibly where needed to help fund Church books and replenish the stall with a regular supply of stock.

In the absence of Sue, who administers the book stall, a simple system of paper communication and a locked wall safe box facilitates self – service by payment or IOU and also orders. Give details of the title and author as well as your name and phone number please.

Book Aid
This charity is also administered by Sue Howcutt at the bookstall. If you have any unneeded Christian books and Bibles at home that you would like to pass on to developing countries, please put them in the box marked ‘BOOKAID’ situated behind the bookstand.

Sue will then take these books to the Luton Christian Bookshop where they, in turn, send over 500 books per annum overseas on a regular basis.

Quite apart from Bookaid some home and Bible study groups subscribe regularly to another Charity that sends new Bibles all over the world.

Library
Our Library is housed on a trolley at the back of St Martin’s and on some occasions, such as an Alpha course session, can be taken elsewhere (the Parish Centre), to become available wherever needed.

The books held have been donated or loaned, to form the library. All are available to be loaned out and lending is recorded simply in a book by title, date and borrower. The Library is overseen by Rosie Berry and Sally Groves.

If you have any queries then please email The Rector for more details.
